Nothing's Promised
07:36
|
|||
Aspen wind, California sun,
Nothing’s promised in this world.
Go in for a check up
And you go under,
Start your retirement
And your heart gave out.
Love can fall by the wayside too.
Even if you’re careful, that sad sack might be you
At some point

I sung similar blues over the years,
Well now I’m gonna sing ‘em again
Images of the Northern California sun got me down.
It wasn’t so much a question of using
For your own ends.
Just of finding that person,
That can treat you better and defend.
Though I got my support,
It still gets me down.
That’s why I’m so far from ones I love
Who still give me frowns.

The Oregon Trail
07:36
|
|||
Played The Oregon Trail the other day,
Still remember the Apple II in third grade.
Capitals, forts, and how to ford the river.
But mostly ended up all the same.
This time, I decided to be a farmer.
Buying some food, and hunting the river way ‘round.
Didn’t go so well,
Everyone in the party died.
But you weren’t among the names.

Elliot
08:23

We met, two strangers
Through the ether
Tryin’ to right our ships
You told me your parents had mistreated you,
Your dad had a pump near his aortic artery.
You’d visit him a few times a week.
You’d bake cakes for him, he’d walk around
And give small hints as to his misery.
I would hear about it in a call, special use of my time
That I’d save for the special ones.
You were always so giddy to meet.
I wish they would have accepted you for who you are
And who you want to be.
Was it something I said
That shrunk your big heart to a nub?
Or did your folks get wind and tell you to cut it off?
I still wish you the best,
Deciphering signs for the silent.
Fill up your cup,
Show love,
Let it worry about the rest.

Red Dress
08:22
|
|||
Red dress, caught in the ice storm.
Summer leaves it to dry.
Some people you thought you knew just pass you by.
I tried the 411 to find you,
It don’t work anymore.
You said you were goin’ back to your boyfriend,
I hope you fairest home.
You came to me when I was wanting,
And gave me more than I could ask for.
I knew about you and you knew about me.
Wish I could’ve made the five hour drive, but that would’ve been too much.
I missed my old phone,
Because it had pictures of you.
Ones I’d like to look at from time to time.
Your pearl-like complexion,
Sleek full smile,
Minnesota nice,
It was so genuine.
In the first fantasy, when I told you you respected me
Even though there was my disability.
You took it in stride, and we built something strong.
On a place filled with charlatans and liars.
I still appreciate what you did,
And I hope you think of me once in a while.
Red dress, caught in the ice storm.
Summer leaves it to dry.
